Spectacular short tactical landing on rough airstrip with full flaps deployed (60°). Wearing special scheme to celebrate 500,000 flight hours and 20 years with the French Air Force for the Transall C-160. Now used as training airframe for paratroopers in Toulouse - FrancazaL.
One of the 2 French Air Force Transall involved in "Ellebore" operation on behalf on ICRC to support famished people of southern Sudan. They operated between December 1988 and April 1989 from Entebbe airport (Uganda) to Akon and Yirol improvised unpaved landing strips in Sudan.
Pictured by a member of my family 50 years ago at Oran La Sénia French Air Force air base N° 141. The aircraft has the markings of Transport wing 61 based in Orléans. In front stands the N° 197 (62-SU) in the markings of Transport Squadron 2 / 62 "Sahara" (ET 02-062). The picture is supposed to be taken in the begining of 1961.
