Constructed as a B.18S, this aircraft was the last civil delivery of a Beech 18 before production was switched to military orders for the duration of WWII. It flew as NC1040 for a newspaper company until impressed for use by the USN from 1942 as JRB-2 BuNo 09771 and saw service with the Marines. After the war it was based at NAS Corpus Christi, NAS Alameda, NAS Anacostia and MCAS Cherry Point before remanufacture as an SNB-5P in 1953, then serving at NAS Willow Grove, NAS Glenview, NAS Atlanta and NAS Pensacola. Moved to the museum in 1962 (displayed indoors around 2012)

Taken on strength by the USN as an F3D-2 around 1951. Transferred to USMC and possibly saw service in Korea. Redesigned EF-10B in 1962. The Skyknight was the only Korean War jet fighter that also flew in Vietnam. As one of the last three Skyknights flying, operated by Raytheon for tests from 1968 at Holloman AFB, NM with US Army markings and retired to the museum by 1990. Painted in VMF(N)-513 marks as '12 7/8' which had replaced F-3D-2 '13', supposedly for better luck after the loss in Korea of another with that code

The second of the 30 production examples of this early carrier jet fighter, assigned to Air Development Squadron 3 (VX-3), NAS Patuxent River, MD from 1949. It featured "Metalite" skin, made from balsa wood sandwiched between two thin sheets of aluminum. Around 1951 it was moved to Socorro, NM for damage trials and weapons testing on a firing range. By 2002 it had been saved by the New England Air Museum and was then trucked to the Vought plant at Hensley Field, TX for restoration by the Vought Aircraft Heritage Foundation, moving to the National Museum of Naval Aviation in 2012
