Ex French AF 23, YU-ACA, US Navy 17223, USAAF 42-93412. Written off on 15 December 1994 taking off from Lobito Airport, Central African Republic while on a Red Cross flight to Angola.

This former USN C-47A, N96BF is undergoing conversion to a Basler BT-67 in a hangar on the north side of KOSH airport. The fuselage stretch or plug can be seen in primer green and the registration is hand written on the lower part of the nose. The aircraft was displayed at the 1992 Farnborough International Air Show. The aircraft was written off in a fatal crash near Lobito, Central African Republic on Dec. 15, 1994 while flying with SL Aviation Services as N96BF. Both pilots were killed.

Ordered by the USAAF as C-47A 42-93412 but delivered to the US Navy as R4D-5 17223 in 1944. To N9577C in 1956 then to the French Navy as 17223 in 1964. To Basler Flight Services as N96BF in 1985. Converted to BT-67 #5 in 1989. Crashed in the Central African Republic in 1994.

Owned by Basler Flight Services ex French Navy 23 (and 17223). Converted to BT-67/ DC-3T Aug 89. Crashed and destroyed at Lobito, Angola, 15 Dec 94 operating as SL Aviation Services (still as N96BF).

Basler showed off its PT-6 powered DC-3 conversion at the 1992 Oshkosh Airshow. Oshkosh is Basler's home base.
