Damaged beyond repair after an amazing crash landing on Sep 30, 1977 at Shannon, Ireland, when it hit the ground short of the runway.

Photographer unknown. After retirement by the RAF in 1975, XL658 became EI-BBY with a company called Interconair, which specialised in exporting beef from Ireland to other European countries. Its career was cut short on 30 September 1977 when a propellor malfunction on short final to runway 24 at Shannon led to a deviation from the approach and a crash-landing in a farmer's field across the road. The aircraft was a write-off but all on board walked away.

RAF Britannias were operated by 99 and 511 Squadrons.

This aircraft named 'Adhara' was part of the Lyneham Britannia Wing comprising Nos. 99 and 511 Squadrons. At the Royal Review.

First flew at Belfast in 12.59 and delivered to the RAF as XL658 "Adgara". Sold to Interconair 6.76 named "Deirdre". Written off at Shannon on 30.9.77 after severe vibration at 300ft on approach to r/w 24. An overshoot was attempted but the aircraft continued to sink and crashed short of the runway
