Close-up of this ex Gulf Air VC-10, which was used at Brize Norton as a spares ship for the RAF's VC10 fleet. It was formerly G-ARVJ.

Gulf Air G-ARVJ was bought by the RAF and allotted military serial ZD493. After some years it became an instructional air frame and received maintenance serial 8977M. After spares recovery it ended up in this sorry state. It was scrapped a year later.

G-ARVJ arrives at Sydney in the last six months of the old international terminal. It was operated by Gulf Air for the Emir of Qatar from October 1975.

Delivered to BOAC on 23.4.64 and seen here on finals to 10L at LHR round about the time of the British Airways merger, this magnificent machine was painted in Gulf Air colours in 10.75 but continued to be operated by BA on behalf of the Emir of Qatar. Became ZD493 on 10.9.82 and ferried from LHR to Brize Norton as BA9553E for spares use by the RAF. Slowly broken up from 1988 with fuselage used for fire practice; gone by 1994
