This MCAS El Toro Station Operations and Engineering Squadron (SOES) CT-39G (call sign TORY) is seen during its landing at its home base. The aircraft was transferred to Marine Transport Squadron (VMR) 2 in 1989 and served that unit until early 1999. The CT-39G was modified at Mojave and transferred to Training Air Wing (TAW) 6 as F-20 with Training Squadron 86 until June 2013. From November 2013, the Sabreliner was reported at Davis Monthan.

In addition to T-39D navigation trainers procured by the US Navy, an additional thirteen CT-39Gs were later ordered. These were based on the later Sabreliner 60 powered by Pratt and Whitney JT-12 engines with thrust reversers. Pictured with the Marines and re-designated a T-39G in 1998, this one was retired to AMARC in November 2013.

Blue skies but a tropical storm is coming in and the aircraft are being flown out. 159365 was retired to AMARC in November 2013 and VT-86 retired its last two T-39s in November 2014. Previously a safety award winner, the unit had lost four Sabreliners in fatal accidents since 2002. Photo by: Patrick Nichols / National Museum of the US Navy
