One of my favourite types, taken during my first visit to Miami in the days when it really was the Mecca for propliner enthusiasts

One of the regular joys of Heathrow cargo in the early Eighties, this former Western Electra went to Amerer Air in 9.97 as OE-ILA then joined Buffalo in 8.06 although not registered C-GLBA until 7.07

Western were the first owner of this 1959-vintage Electra, here showing the distinctive paddle-blade props to advantage as she rests under the desert sun. Acquired by Johnsons International in 1972, merged into Evergreen 1975 and after being re-registered N5558, wfu and used for spares after 1983

Bought by Evergreen in 3.79 having previously been registered N6118A with PSA, McCulloch and originally American Airlines. Became N5534 in 4.79 - the second use of this identity on an Electra (cn 1066 was by this time N664F). Sold to the Argentine Navy as 0793/6-P-104 in 9.83 and preserved at Museo de la Aviación Naval, Bahia Blanca, since 4.08 in an all grey scheme

Broken up at Bournemouth in 2002 (nose saved and moved to Pershore, owner intended repaint in 1959 Eastern colours)

Bought from National Airlines in 1968 and converted to a freighter. Sold to Zantop in 1974.

Seen here at Adelaide in partial Ansett livery shortly before its sale to Evergreen. It was delivered to the USA (using ferry registration N2251A) soon after this photo was taken. After arrival Evergeen quickly reregistered it to N5538. In 1983 this aircraft ended up with the Argentine Navy, where it was written off in 1989.

First registered as N1883 in October 1959. It entered the Australian Register as VH-RMC on the 5th. February 1960. sold in the USA and registered N357Q on the 20th. September 1984. It crashed on approach to Kansas City Downtown Airport on 9th January 1985 and was destroyed.

Literally out in the weeds at Anchorage International, this aircraft is used for fire practice by airport authorities

A regular visitor of Miami's international airport, taxiing to the cargo ramp under the hot Florida sun. During the late 1980s TAN operated two Electras into Miami, HR-TNL and this one. TNL was lost when it crashed into a mountain in March 1990, but TNT soldiered on (later as HR-SHN of SAHSA). In April 1997 it was sold to Conair in Canada as C-FZCS and was converted to water bomber. By 2017 it still served in that role in Canada with Air Spray, fighting forest fires as Tanker 87.
