In the nineties Marines EA-6B's were deployed to Aviano for operations over the Balkans.

158816 was on the deck of the USS Ranger during a visit to Fremantle. The carrier rode at anchor at Gage Roads (Outer Harbour) during the visit as required for nuclear powered and/or armed aircraft carriers. The Prowler was withdrawn from use in 2005 and scrapped. The Ranger was decommissioned in 1993 and later scrapped.

Thirty minutes or so earlier the barge carrying this EA-6B had arrived at the quayside beside the USS Midway, from the museum's restoration facility on NAS North Island. The Prowler is pictured being gently lifted on to the carrier to become the latest in an impressive line up of Naval aircraft on deck. Note the starboard side carries VAQ-132 USS America markings, whereas the port side carries those from (appropriately) VAQ-136 USS Midway.

Struck of Strength October 18, 2006, this VAQ-129 Prowler would later be sent to the NATTC yard (Naval Air Technical Training Center) at NAS Pensacola.

The Prowler was an entirely different aircraft to the EA-6A (modified from the A-6A) and was not based on the A-6B despite the designation. It carried a crew of four, the pilot and three ECM operators. This, the first of 170 built, was retained for development by the NATC at Patuxent River, MD, and arrived at MASDC three months prior to the photo date. Sporting some colourful markings, this Prowler was serving with VAQ-133 (home base NAS Whidbey Island) as part of CVW-1 aboard USS John F Kennedy at the time. Later assigned to the Marines (VMAQ-4) till SOC in Sept 2010
