Photographed in Northern Florida in late October 1977, but sadly the exact location is unknown. Still shown as current on the USCAR with an owner in Alabama.

In 1982 this aircraft was recalled by the US Navy and after rework by Grumman was registered N8523H and used by the Smithsonian Institute for scientific explorations. In March 1989 its was acquired first by Island Flying Boats of Miami, and then in January 1990 by Air Crane Inc of Opa Locka, but October 1992 it was cancelled from the register as exported to Mexico. No Mexican registration could be traced, but its derelict hulk lives on Tepic International Airport, and it can still be seen there on Google Earth, imagery date March 2024.

The aircraft was retired to MASDC at Tucson in December 1980 and believed scrapped c.1983.

The aircraft was retired to the MASDC "Boneyard" at Davis Monthan AFB, Tucson, in 1960. In 1974 it was acquired by the Aero American Corp., registered N87666 and re-located to Ryan Field where it remained unconverted until broken up for parts c.1982; the registration was cancelled in May 1984.

Built as a civil aircraft and registered NC8943H, it was one of 83 of the type bought from North American by the USAAF for use as liaison and staff transport aircraft and designated L-17A, and in this case allotted the serial 47-1312. It was later fitted with new brakes and fuel tanks by Schweizer Aircraft Corporation and re designated L-17C. Later civilianised as N6724C it had a number of accidents, and was most recently restored by lately deceased Milwaukee Police Sgt. Burton K Ottow whose name it still wears. It was being offered for sale at Oshkosh with the proceeds going to his estate.

Looking very much different to the pristine examples seen at airshows today, these well used US Navy T-28B Trojans were photographed at Whiting Field Naval Air Station, FL., on 28-10-1977. In the twilight of their service at the time they were retired the following year, but BuNo 137764 in the foreground was later civilianised and now flies in Washington State as N2207Y.

This aircraft was retired to the MASDC "Boneyard" at Tucson in October 1983, civilianised as N28TY in November 1984 and is still current on the US register with an owner in Michigan.

Agricultural sprayer conversion, the registration was cancelled by the FAA in October 2014 as "Expiration".

This aircraft was retired to the MASDC "boneyard" at Tucson in March 1985 and later sold to Jet Paqueteria in Mexico as XA-AAF, but written off on 2nd June 2003 at Laredo, TX., when the roof of a hangar collapsed during a wind storm.

Tragically, on 22nd December 1979, following a night take-off from Orlando-Herndon Airport in adverse weather conditions, the pilot lost control of the aircraft and it crashed killing all 4 persons on board.

Tragically this aircraft was destroyed, and the two occupants killed, when it crashed shortly after take-off from Mulhouse-Habsheim Airfield in France on 5th July 1989.

Delivered to United in July 1953 as N37568 "Mainliner Des Moines", it served until October 1968 when it had flown 32,296 hours. In December 1971 it was acquired by the Fairbanks-based Aero Retardant Inc. who converted it as a fire bomber, becoming Tanker 52 / D2. The following year it was transferred to the sister company Pacific Alaska Airlines, and operated until 1980 when it was sold to B&D Aircraft Inc. for parting out. After lingering at on at Chino for many years it was finally broken up c.1990, the nose section being noted at The Aviation Warehouse at El Mirage, CA. in October 1992.

Built as L-17B 48-1011 but civilianised as N8222E in 1959 and sale reported to Germany in July 2010, although no subsequent German registration could be traced. The registration N8222E was cancelled by the FAA in February 2013.
