Used in film 'Land Girls', now Black Six static RAF Cosford

The engine cowls were off for some reason revealing engine number - 20 374 -

The aircraft was captured during the Western Desert campaign and brought back to South Africa as a war prize. Although the identity is unknown, it is displayed as White 6 I/JG27.

Accepted by the Luftwaffe Oct.1942 but abandoned to the advancing allied forces the next month. Allocated RN228 by No.1426 Enemy Aircraft Flight Feb.1944. Displayed at various venues post-war and shown above as Yellow 14 in the desert colours of JG53. Registered to the IWM as G-USTV 26 Oct.1990. Rebuilt to flying standard with first post-restoration flight 17 March 1991. On 12 Oct.1997 on what was its last planned flight before handing over to the RAF Museum, it was substantially damaged in a landing accident at Duxford. Since rebuilt to static display standard and now at RAF Museum, Cosford.

This HA-1112-M1L "Buchon" is a licensed, Spanish (Hispano) built version of the Messerschmitt Bf-109G fighter of which 172 were produced from 1954 to 1958 and issued to Ejercito de Aire and operated until 1965. Originally had a four bladed propellor. In 1967 to Victory Air Museum, Mundelein, IL. To private UK owner on 30 March 1982 - reg G-BJZZ. Damaged in ground loop Biggin Hill in May 82. Restored and displayed at Whitehall, London. Re-registered G-HUNN from 29 April 1987 to 9 October 1991. To the US and registered NX109GU. To museum in December 1994 now registered as N109GU.

Tested by the RAF as RN228. Part of the historic aircraft exhibition at Wattisham Battle of Britain day. Restored to flight and registered to the IWM as G-USTV February 1994. Flown regularly until damaged in an accident at Duxford on 12th October 1997. Rebuilt for static display. At RAFM Cosford in 2022.

This full-size mock-up features a working canopy and fully equipped cockpit with some original instruments. The paint scheme is standard Luftwaffe 1942-43 Mediterranean theatre. The nose art and logo represent Jagdgeschwader II/27 Squadron that operated in North Africa, in Europe against Bomber Command (Feb.-June, 1944), and in Normandy following D-Day. The mock-up was built by Lech Lebiedowski after salvaging some parts from a crash site.
