Built by Aeritalia-Alenia as G222RM (RM = Radio Misure). The G222 did not passed its service life unharmed. It was first damaged by a strong wind at Trapani-Birgi in February 1986, repaired. Then its nose was badly damaged by collapsing of a roof of an old RSV hangar at Pratica di Mare in December 2001. Not repaired, and withdrawn from use at Patrica iup to mid-2002. It bwas then dumped in the south east corner of the field by March 2003. Last reported as such in late 2008.

At that time the Italian Air Force used some G-222s specifically converted and PD-808s for the radio checking of navaids. These aircrafts were equipped with a sophisticated automatic checking system based on a computer coupled with an inertial navigation system. Duties later fully transferred to the civil ENAV that already operated some aircrafts.

This is one of possibly two airframes converted to the ECM duty. Operated by 14 Stormo 71 Gruppo it didn't wear any unit or identity codes. Delivered between 1981 and 1983 it was equipped with the rotating antenna on top of the fin and a turret antenna immediately before the nose landing gear. Other blade antennas were added during its operational life. It was often used on the Adriatic Sea during the Balkans' war and ceased operations in 2009. The supposed second airframe could have been MM62138 (c/n 4051), as can be found in some databases, but no certain information is available on it.

Author unknown. At that time the 98th Gruppo aircrafts wore identity codes in the range 46-80 to 46-99 and the 46 Brigata badge on the fin was trimmed in green colour. Nice to see on the backgroud a line-up F-104s with the badge of 28th Gruppo "Witches" on the air intakes, at that time part of 3rd Stormo "C.E. Buscaglia" as painted on their fins.

This is one of five airframes converted for firefighting and civil protection duties. The two ejectors of the MAFFS (Modular Airborne FireFighting System) are visible on the rear of the fuselage. In this case the system could be operated keeping closed the rear ramp. No unit or individual codes are carried on the aircraft, also if the small fleet was operated on behalf of 46 Brigata Aerea.
