This Hurricane is unique having been converted to two seat configuration including dual controls in the rear cockpit. Note the extended canopy which can be split to give access to the new rear cockpit. If you look closely you can also see an additional drop down half-door has been added immediately forward of the cockpit rear bulkhead.

Early days at the BBMF

On display at IAF Museum Palam with the cowling fairings painted red. This would disappear on subsequent paint jobs. One of the most important aircraft in the IAF and RIAF inventory that equipped eight squadrons from 1942 to 1945, the Hurricane played a major part in the Arakan Campaign.

Delivered to the Soviet Air Force in March 1942, serving with the 2nd Fighter Regiment on the Russian Front. It was shot down in October 1942 crashing in a swamp in the Karelia Region on the Russia/Finland border. Wreckage dug out of the swamp and brought to the museum in 2003.

This Hurricane spent about thirty years on outdoor display at Biggin Hill before being removed for a comprehensive restoration. It was placed on display at the RAF Museum, Cosford in 1995.

Built in 1940 by Hawker Aircraft Ltd. at Kingston-on-Thames, Z2389 served with five different RAF Squadrons in 1941, including the American volunteer 71 'Eagle' Squadron at Martlesham Heath. As part of emergency war supplies for Russia, Z2389 was crated up and joined the 767 Regiment of the Red Air Force on the Kola Peninsula. On the 20th of June 1942, it was shot down. Z2389's pilot F/Lt Ivan Kalashnikov survived the forced landing. Fifty years later, Z2389 was found, and its remains arrived at Brooklands on the 14th October. Restoration took from 1999 to 2019 - now with Squadron code XR-J.

The last Hurricane Built. Delivered to the RAF as PZ865 in 1944. To Hawker as G-AMAU in 1950. Renamed to Hawker Siddeley in 1963. Repainted as PZ865 in the 1960s. Donated to the RAF Batlle of Britain Flight as PZ865 in 1972. Civil registration cancelled.

Issued as LD619, 27 August 1943 and SOC South African Air Force 30 April 1944

Sold in the UK as G-ORGI in October 2021.

This Canadian Car and Foundry Hurricane was originally built to Sea Hurricane Mk IB standards (later converted to a Hurricane Mk XIIA). The fighter was delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force as BW881. it is part of the Flying Heritage Collection.

Photo likely taken at Northolt were No 253 Sqn worked up on 'well-worn Hurricane Mk Is, fitted with two-bladed airscrews and fabric wings' from February 1940. They became operational in April. Defending Marcq airfield in Lille, L1674 was shot down by a Bf 109 of I./JG 3 on 19 May. Flt Lt Harry Anderson, the commander of the squadron's B Flight, was killed.
