On display at Museum of Flight. Powered by a 1,580-hp Merlin 66, this Spitfire with a 'c' wing capable of being fitted with bomb racks was built at Castle Bromwich in early 1944. The Spitfire wears the code '5J-Z' of No. 126 (Persian Gulf) Sqn RAF after the unit returned from the Mediterranean theatre to the UK in April 1944. It participated in D-Day and shot down two Bf-109s on 14 Aug 1944. By Dec 1944 it went to No. 32 MU and into storage. In 1947 the aircraft was transferred to KLu, being shipped to India and Java, flying combat ops. It went to the Belgian AF in 1953 and to the USA in 1963.

BBMF Spitfire P7350 shortly after repaint into 54 Squadron markings as the personal machine of the legendary WW2 ace Alan C Deere.

A late Griffon engined Spitfire fitted with a five-bladed propeller. Built at Castle Bromwich in 1948, it served with 80 Squadron in the Far East. It later carried a maintenance serial of 7150M.

Not normally a fan of non-contemporary paint schemes added onto historical aircraft, however given the current circumstances, I more than approve.

Destroyed in a hangar fire at Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on February 15, 1993.

The Rolls-Royce Merlin 63 of "Mylcraine" getting some summer sunshine and TLC at Duxford. Combat veteran MH434 went into action with No. 222 Sqn. in Aug. 1943 and shot down or damaged four Luftwaffe fighters in three weeks. It later flew with No. 349 Sqn. After the war, the Spitfire served with Royal Netherlands Air Force No. 322 Sqn. and saw action in Indonesia. After returning to the UK, it featured in "Operation Crossbow", "Battle of Britain" and "A Bridge Too Far".
