By May 1972, deployed aboard USS Midway with VF-161 and was quickly credited with shooting down a MiG-19 over North Vietnam. Around 1973 it was upgraded to F-4N status and deployed aboard USS Coral Sea with VF-111. Later transferred to VMFA-314 and VF-154. Struck off at NARF Pensacola in late 1983 and put on show in its final colours as deployed aboard USS Coral Sea with VF-154 in 1982
