Venture Airways provided an all First Class service linking Coventry with Paris CDG. The aircraft had F class seats in a 1-2 configuration. Small world that it was, one of the Venture Airways company executives lived next door to my parents. Shortly after they commenced operations he invited me to sample their service. This photo was taken early morning prior to my departure to Paris CDG. It was a wonderful experience, but sadly Venture Airways' existence was short-lived as they could not compete with the multi-frequency options offered by established airlines from nearby Birmingham Airport.

I'm posting this poor quality photo in absence of any other. Leased from Dan-Air London (G-BEKD) Jul 83 until Dec 85. Returned to Dan-Air. Later became EI-BSF with a small Irish airline called Ryanair!

Landing long on 9R, as most Bahamasair turboprops did, to minimise taxi time. This frame was delivered in Jul 79. It was damaged beyond repair at Nassau in Oct 98 by Hurricane Mitch.

This was the first 748 on the Canadian register having been bought from Channel Airways (G-ATEJ) and delivered in December 1967. In the 1980s, when the used prices came down, Canadian operators went for them in a big way as they were ideal for northern service, being ruggedly built and certified for gravel runways. Nothing could touch them until the ATR became affordable, so operators flew them unpressurized to compensate for locally designed large freight doors and to stretch out the airframe fatigue life. The thing that finally did them in was the Dart engines.

Ex VP-LII, registered 28th May 1965 to BKS, then to Skyways Coach Air which merged into Dan-Air Apr 1972. To VP-LVO 28th Oct 1985

Aircraft was on delivery from Austrian Airlines and in their basic livery. Served with them as OE-LHT. The aircraft was later re-registered RP-C1028, and was written off on 3 February 1975.

Ex OY-DFV, registered 3rd May 1971 and withdrawn from use EGHL (Lasham) Oct 1989, scrapped Apr 1990

Today (June 24th 2020) marks the 60th anniversary of the first flight of the Avro 748.
