Wessex XM845 from RNAS Culdrose, rescue demonstration with Penlee Lifeboat,Solomon Browne, off Penzance Promenade in Mounts Bay, Cornwall with St Michaels Mount as backdrop, near Christmas two years later the Penlee Lifeboat was lost with all on board in a desperate attempt to save the crew of the Union Star a few miles from the Photo scene,that night the sea conditions were so severe the Wessex on duty crewed by an American exchange pilot was completely helpless to assist in the rescue.e

This Wessex first flew in April 1966 and after retirement was placed on display, or rather more accurately, in the restoration queue at the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum/Aeroventure.

Operated by 737 Squadron based at RNAS Portland, Dorset. It wears the anti-submarine scheme for helicopters prevelant in the mid 1960s.
