This L-12A was built by Lockheed as NC16077 in October 1939. It was shipped to England in April 1939 aboard the SS Aquitania, registered G-AFTL for photographic duties around Europe and North Africa. This plane was the last British registered aircraft to leave Germany before the start of WWII. After the outbreak of the war it retained its civil reg. and was used as a camera ship and to test the efficiency of aircraft reporting system. It was badly damaged when a parachuted mine hit the hangar at Heston so returned to Lockheed for repairs. It would not return to UK skies again until March 2022.

Marked to represent Amelia Earhart's Lockheed L-10E Electra, this aircraft was first registered NC33615 in 1941, quickly passing to the USN as XR3O-2 BuNo 02947. Apparently taken on charge by the RAF in August 1945 as 'D2947' (seems suspect) but became G-AGTL in September 1945 when acquired by Sidney Cotton, famous for his recently restored Lockheed 12A G-AFTL which was used for clandestine reconnaissance over Germany before WW2. To F-BJJY in 1963 and F-AZLL with Le Gros Biplane Rouge in 1999.

First registered to British Airways in May 1939 and cancelled in November 1942 on sale in British Honduras where it became VP-TAI. It later became N12EJ and returned to the UK Register on 29th March 2022 with a No Flight Declaration made the same day. It may have returned to the air since then. A stunning aircraft!

Originally N2630 with Socony - Vacuum Oil from April 1940, this Electra Junior operated for the company in Venezuela from 1941. To Avensa as YV-AVF by 1944, the aircraft carried several Venezuelan registrations before returning to the USA as N2633 in 1968. Acquired by the Perras brothers in 1988, it's remains in the Perras family kept in immaculate condition.

Beautiful classic attending a cool event organised by the friendly Vliegclub Ursel. Located in Flanders between Ghent and Bruges, Ursel is a reserve airbase with a 3-km runway.

Spyplane! This was apparently the first of several L-12s registered to Australian pilot Sidney Cotton and fitted with concealed cameras at Heston to photograph German military preparations on behalf of MI6. Cotton led the RAF's No 1 PDU (Photographic Development Unit) after the outbreak of the war. In front of the Babb hangar at Glendale. Jimmie Mattern again used the registration NR869E for this modified L-12. Planned long-range flights did not go ahead. Instead, Mattern used the aircraft to join the search for missing Soviet aviator Sigizmund Levanevsky, who had helped him following the crash of his Vega 5C NR869E (c/n 188) in Siberia.
