Opening of a short-lived Dresden - Magdeburg - Hamburg floatplane service along the Elbe. A rather grand terminal building was erected here which still stands. The nearest F 13 can be identified as D-433, which was registered to the Junkers-affiliated Sächsische Luftverkehrs AG with the name Baumlaufer. D-433 was used by Westflug GmbH from Bad Oeynhausen during 1926. In the autumn it made proving flights for a planned Cologne - Duisburg - Rotterdam service along the Rhine. This service was carried out by Lufthansa during the 1927 summer season. The same aircraft was photographed with Lufthansa markings at this same spot near the Rheinlust restaurant in Duisburg - Wanheim. However, D-433 went to Austria early in 1927. it was indeed a very nice surprise to see this classic plane parked outside the Hugo Junkers Hangar at MGL

In the now closed museum. For me one of the stars in this collection and one of only four left in existence. The wings come from CH-66.

This F13 has English-language instruments and was intended for John Larsen Aircraft in the USA as a JL-6, but seized by the Allied Control Commission in Germany and given to France in early 1921. It was already listed in the Musée de l'Air catalogue of 1922-23. Construction number 609 is apparently confirmed on an airframe part and it is not c/n 600 which was put to use in Belgium as a racing pigeon transport.

Rare image of VH-UKW being brought ashore at Lae, New Guinea following its purchase in Australia by Guinea Airways. The aircraft was written off after a crash at Narakapor, near Nadzab, on 26 August 1939.

Junkers sent this new floatplane as a rescue aircraft in support of Roald Amundsen's planned flight across the North Pole from Alaska to Spitsbergen, known today as Svalbard. It arrived in Tromsø by ship on 21 June 1923 and made some local pleasure flights. By then Amundsen had cancelled his Arctic flight. On 1 July 1923 D-260, now named Eisvogel, was still shipped from Tromsø to Spitsbergen to make some pioneering flights in the archipelago. Photo from: Perspektivet Museum

Junkers F-13 SE-AAC ex ABA (Sweden) at the Tekniska Museet. Previously D-343 and S-AAAC. Served ABA 1924 until 1934, then given to the museum. Now displayed indoors.

Replica of that classical airplane displayed at the STR observation deck, built by Manfred Pflumm at Schwenningen. This one is called the first real passenger aircraft.

First flown in June 1919, the metal Junkers F13 was one of the first real airliners. No aircraft could look more like a Meccano toy plane, but have a good look and see how advanced it actually was for its day. The aircraft shown here was delivered to Afghanistan in 1928 and by 1937 it served with the Afghan air force. In 1968 its wreck was recovered from a scrapyard in Kabul and donated to the Deutsches Museum. Reconstructed and on display since 1984. According to some sources the construction number is not certain and could also be c/n 2019. The real D-366 was c/n 723.
