Skyway Air Services of Langley, BC first acquired Grumman TBM-3s in the 1960s for spraying and fire fighting. The fire fighting division was spun off as Conair Aviation in April 1969 with a fleet of ex-RCN and US Navy single-engine Grumman Avengers which were later sold to Forest Protection in New Brunswick. Avenger CF-MUE/618 was photographed being washed at the BC Forest Service tanker base north of the Conair hangars at Abbotsford on July after attacking a receives a wash after a mission on July 6, 1975. It was exported to the USA as N40402 in 2001.

Ex US Navy 91733. Converted to a tanker and flown by Cisco Aircraft in 1961/62 and Desert Aviation Service in 1963/64. Operated by Aircraft Specialities of Mesa as a sprayer from 1966-1977, Retired and later to to Globe Air and to the Collings Foundation in 1986 and current with them in 2021.

Operated by Reeder Flying Service. At the time of the photo is was set up for agricultural spraying. Originally delivered to the US Navy as 91521.

Recently retired after service with Forest Protection Ltd. The CCAR/FAA quoted c/n 91426 is actually its US Navy serial. Exported as N40402 in 2001 to the American Airpower Heritage Flying Museum, Dallas/TX.

Originally delivered to the U.S. Navy, serial 85883. Just two months after this photo was taken the aircraft crashed and was destroyed.

Operated by Reeder Flying Service. The aircraft is fitted with spray bars along the wing trailing edge. This was seen on many air tankers, which were frequently used for agricultural spraying when not in use for fire suppression duties.

A General Motors-built Avenger, delivered to the US Navy as 69323. After leaving the Navy in 1958 became an aerial tanker and sprayer; first as N7961C and after 1974 in Canada as C-GLEJ. Pictured with Forest Protection Ltd who operated it from 1974 to 2004. It was exported to the USA in 2004 as N124TB and is undergoing restoration as a warbird at the time of uploading.

This Avenger served with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1950 - 1960. Then it went to Skyway as a fire bomber and ag sprayer and then to Conair and eventually to Forest Protection Limited in New Brunswick until it was sold in 2002 to the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum in New Jersey.

Constructed by Eastern Aircraft division of GM and delivered to the US Navy as 69327. Modified by Fairey Aviation from torpedo bomber to an Anti-Submarine aircraft for the Royal Canadian Navy as 326 in 1950. In 1961 it was modified again by Fairey Aviation to a fire bomber for Skyway Air Service as CF-KCG. In 1969 it went to Conair until 1976 when it was damaged in an accident in New Brunswick. From there it found its way to the Imperial War Museum in England where it was restored representing an Avenger flown by George Bush during World War II. Moved to Liverpool in 2023 for the future Battle Of The Atlantic Fleet Air Arm Museum.

Sold in the US as N337GA in 1994

Sold in Australia as VH-MML in September 2005.
