This ex-Polish Air Force aircraft was imported into Australia and stored at Bankstown from 1993 to 1995. Registered VH-EKI on 4 April 1995, it made its first post-restoration flight the following year on 17 November 1996. It was operated on warbird adventure flights for some years and damaged on landing at Camden on 28 December 1997. Repaired, it flew on until at least 2005 before being 'retired' to Bathurst, along with sister-ship VH-REH. It certainly looks a bit tattier these days than it used to!

This PZL-built version of the MiG 15 UTI was formerly '50' with the Polish Air Force. It was acquired as part of a batch by Barry Hempel and shipped to Archerfield in March 1993 ex storage Mierzecice AB, Poland. Currently displayed on a pole in fictitious Soviet markings outside what used to be the Flying Fighters Museum.

Representing the Soviet MiG-15s which shot down a Swedish signals intelligence C-47 and a rescue PBY in 1952. 215 is the Polish serial of this Polish-built MiG.

'Midget' was quite an apt Western reporting name for the MiG-15UTI trainer. The Polish SB Lim-2A was a reconnaissance version. This aircraft served with the Polish navy.

This aircraft looks as though it has had a recent re-paint. It is an outdoor exhibit at the Polish Aviation Museum. The emblem on the fin is an owl on an anchor indicating a Naval Aviation Unit.

VH-DIE was ex Polish Air Force but painted in Soviet-Union era markings for the air show circuit. It came onto the Australian register in 1991.

Having seen dozens of flightless MiG-15s and MiG-17s, often scruffy, I was delighted to witness this Polish-built MiG-15UTI shining in the air.

Real Polish air force serial 712 later applied. Also wore '346'.
