At some point after I took this slide the paint scheme was changed with the top of the fuselage being painted white. Looks like the yellow paint is peeling off of the number 8 on the vertical fin and rudder.

Prior to 1970 USN reserve squadrons didn't have aircraft assigned to them. The NARTU at the base was responsible for maintaining and allocating a/c to the reserve squadrons as needed. In 1970 Naval Air Reserve squadrons were reorganized and assigned their own aircraft in order to more closely match the capabilities of the active duty USN squadrons.
