This aircraft was leased from Transavia Holland

This was one of the two occasions that I flew in a VC-10 seen here as I was boarding for a flight to JFK. Most flights between LHR and JFK by that time were with Boeing 747-100 but a few remained with the VC-10 and I deliberately booked one of them. British Airways used a slogan' Love at first flight' one later used by Airbus for the A380.

In Northeast Airlines (UK) colours with British Airways titles. Trident 1Es weren't selling. Hawker Siddley built 15 but only sold 10. They needed to offload 5 white tails. Channel Airways agreed to buy them. then reduced its order to two. Two of three due to go to Channel, G-AVYC and 'D were then sold to Newcastle-based BKS Air Transport in 1969. In November 1970, BKS changed its name to Northeast Airlines. In July 1973, Northeast became part of the British Airways group. Hence the hybrid livery you see in the picture. It had been repainted into British Airways before it was destroyed in a take-off accident at Bilbao in 1975.

Delivered British Airways in March 1990 and operating for BA until September 2000. In May 2001 over to a leasingcompany, for paint in Aerolineas Argentinas c/s. Parked at Prestwick for 2 months, before ferried to Buenos Aires in March 2001. wfu in 2009. In 2016 converted to training facility (and painted in American Airlines c/s)

GB Airways ceased operations in March 2008 after being bought by and merged into easyJet.

Delivered new 10th Dec 1991 and became N407AU 7th Oct 2015 for freighter conversion

Delivered new 24th Feb 1988 and became TF-ATZ 25th July 2001

Delivered new 2nd Dec 1988 and sold as N140AT 14th Jan 2008, then retired KGYR (Goodyear) 16th Jan 2008 and scrapped Aug 2010

Later OO-DPI, VT-BDJ, A9C-DHF, G-BMRG. Scrapped Jul/2018 at Madrid
