Qantas bought VH-EDC in 1961 from the Department of Civil Aviation, which had operated it as VH-CAR. Qantas was used it for crew training. -EDC was disposed of 1971 and passed through the hands of a string of operators which used it for cargo and passenger charter. It was on a passenger charter on April 14, 1994, when it ditched into Botany Bay immediately after take-off. All on board escaped before -EDC sunk in shallow water. It was deemed not worth repairing.

VH-EAJ photographed ahead of its delivery flight. I was part of a media party invited to Everett for a briefing on the now forgotten Boeing 7J7 propfan project that coincided with the handover. We were then flown to Fiji on a regular Qantas flight (from LAX) to join VH-EAJ on the final leg of its delivery flight to Sydney which included a pass over its namesake city, Wollongong. Qantas would be the only operator of the aircraft, which flew into storage in 2003 and later scrapped.

VH-EBB was delivered with JT3C jets engines in 1959 and upgraded to turbofan JT3D engines in 1961. It was sold as N790SA in 1967 for service with Standard Airways. Behind -EBB is the then international terminal, little more than a shed. It was replaced in 1970 by the building that still forms the core of the current international terminal. The old site was cleared for a new terminal for Trans-Australia Airlines (now called Terminal 3).
