Less than a year after this picture was taken, on 30 August 1965, XD328 took the barrier whilst attempting to land at HMS Ark Royal when she was off Malaysia. Then coded 'R-015' the Scimitar was shipped back to Fleetlands for repair. This did not happen and XD328 was struck off charge in July 1966 and later scrapped.
