The spy plane returned to Kubinka, Russia in '94. It was converted to an Il-20ME after 2000 and reserialled to RF-93610 in mid-'11. The aircraft received VVS Rossii titles in '15. It was written off on 17 Sep'19 near Baniyas (Syria) while operating from Khmeimim (Syria) over the Mediterranean Sea. A Syrian Surface to Air Missile shot it down as it operators thought it was an Israeli fighter, killing 15 crew.
