The B-50 entered service in 1947 with some 370 being built. As they were replaced by more modern equipment, many were converted for use as tankers by Tactical Air Command by the removal of armament and fitment of extra tankage in the fuselage and under the wings. To keep up with the increasing demands from the jets they were serving, the external tanks were replaced by two J47 turbojets. As such, they soldiered on well into the 1960s until fully replaced by KC-97s and moreover KC-135s

Climbing away from Runway 30 at Prestwick, en route home from Cherbourg and the 80th Anniversary D-Day commemorations in Normandy, as RCH123. Carries the markings of the 136 AW, Texas Air National Guard, based at Fort Worth. In addition to special Invasion Stripes for the occasion, it sports the authentic "chalked-on" name "The Howdy Hooligan", the large identifier "A7" and, aft, a now partially obscured cartoon of an excited parachutist "YEEHAH"

The Bolo was the USAAC's standard bomber in pre-war years and was based on the DC-2. Obsolete by the time the US entered the war in December 1941, several were modified as B-18B sub hunters. The last time I'd photographed this aircraft was in 1979, well before it was restored to USAAF colours. At that time it was under civil registration N66267 with scrubbed "Roberts Aircraft - Dusting Spraying - Boise Idaho" titles still visible on the natural metal fuselage. Now displayed in the 1942 marks of 25th Antisubmarine Wing, 4th Antisubmarine Sqdn, Langley AAF, VA

This aircraft was converted from its EC-135C status by E-systems for the 'Night Watch III' command post role with the 1000th ACCS at Andrews AFB in 1966 and was redesigned as an EC-135J in 1967. Reassigned to 1st ACCS in 1969 and demodified in 1975 when communications equipment was removed to be used in the replacement E-4A program. The aircraft then took on the 'Blue Eagle' role with the 9th ACCS at Hickam AFB which provided secure comms between CINCPAC HQ in Hawaii and US naval forces throughout the Pacific. Before being placed on display, the tail of EC-135P 55-3129 was substituted.

The unique overhead jet intake configuration of the F-107 development of the F-100 was to allow for carrying weapons partially submerged in the aircraft's belly. After being beaten by the F-105 in a completion to provide the USAF with a new all-weather fighter-bomber, two of the three F-107 prototypes were used by NACA for X-15 control system testing. 55-5119 is also preserved, in the National Museum of the USAF
