Following completion and initial testing, the CV-22 164941 was assigned as an US Air Force test vehicle and based at Kirtland AFB (NM) from early 2002. The whole Osprey fleet was grounded in December 2000 and after that period was finished, the CV-22 again took to the air for the first time on 14 July 2003. It was modified to the final production configuration during summer 2004 and assigned to the CV-22 Integrated Test Team and later to the 418th Flight Test Squadron as part of the 412th Test Wing at Edwards AFB (CA) up to spring 2007. This Osprey was originally built as a pre-production MV-22B for the USN with BuNo 165839. In 2005 it was modified into a CV-22B and flew more than 200 developmental test missions at Edwards AFB. On transfer to the USAF's 413th Flight Test Squadron, Hurlburt Field, FL it flew a further 400 tests before ferrying to Wright Field for the museum in December 2013

The Osprey of the 7th Special Operations Squadron from RAF Mildenhall came all the way from Rygge to Volkel to pick up a spare part. Afterwards it headed back to Rygge the same day.

Three CV-22Bs arrived from Fairford on this Sunday afternoon. The other two being 11-0058 and 11-0061.

Assigned to 7th SOS, making a fine fly by over the RIAT.

FSD aircraft built as a MV-22B but bailed to the USAF as CV-22 4939 with the 418FLTS at Edwards. Aircraft now resides at the USAFNM at Dayton.
