The YPT-16 was a military version of the civilian Ryan STA and became the first monoplane acquired by the Army Air Corps as a primary trainer. This aircraft flew as NC18922 in civilian life but is on display at the National Museum of the USAF as one of the 15 YPT-16 operated by the AAC. They must have been satisfied and this led on to the AAC operating nearly 1,200 more similar Ryan trainers as PT-20s, PT-21s and PT-22s.

Built by CAC Fishermans Bend 27 April 1956 and delivered to the RAAF in May. Served with 1FTS Point Cook. Sold 2 May 1979 with 4635 h. Registered VH-SOB December 1981 and based in Melbourne until 1995 when it moved to Caboolture, where it presently lives. Seen here at the Wide Bay International Airshow.

Despite appearances, this Stearman/Kaydet was built for the USAAF as 41-25362. Post-war it was civilianised as N57336, later N7122T (partially carried on the fin). It was exported to Australia in this attractive USN colour scheme and became VH-EYB on 18 October 2006. Seen here visiting the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's annual charity Christmas Toy Run.
