This and a few surplus C-54s had dark rectangles painted around its oval windows to make it look more modern. Taken with the Kodak 616 Monitor on Kodak Verichrome Pan film.

This 12-passenger amphibian was owned by William K. Vanderbilt of New York City. George Vanderbilt had a Douglas Dolphin 12, and Harold Vanderbilt had a Lockheed 14-N. It is in dark blue and silver. The CAA/FAA allowed and issued one registration for a group of new planes on a ferry flight. In this case all four A-45s in this photo have the registration N12B, and a fifth aircraft with the same reg was also present.

One of the few postwar production DC-4s (not a C-54) arriving at Oakland on September 18, 1946 for the inaugural landing of ANA in the U.S. Since landing rights had not yet been granted, the plane merely stopped for fuel, and continued on to Vancouver where passengers disembarked. The passengers were later greeted by the press and given a luncheon at Oakland Airport during their layover in commemoration of the flight.

Lt. Alexandru 'Alex' Papană of Romania was the world acrobatic champion. He flew his spectacular aerial acrobatics in this plane as part of the 1938 Pacific International Air Races, which were held at Oakland Airport 28-30 May 1938. The aircraft was transported to the USA on board the "Hindenburg" in August 1936.

Lt. Alexandru 'Alex' Papană of Romania was the world acrobatic champion. He flew his spectacular aerial acrobatics in this plane as part of the 1938 Pacific International Air Races, which were held at Oakland Airport 28-30 May 1938. The aircraft was transported to the USA on board the "Hindenburg" in August 1936.
