The Wildcat was at first renamed Martlet by the British. This machine belonged to a batch of 81 originally ordered by the French navy. It was delivered in 1940 in an unusual camouflage scheme that has been restored as faithfully as possible.

In its original, cruder form as a Fairey Delta 2, WG774 broke the world air speed record in 1956, bringing it to 1132 mph (1811 km/h) or Mach 1.73. It was later rebuilt as the BAC 221 to test the Concorde wing shape. A wooden model of the Delta 2 sits under the aircraft, and the British Concorde prototype is in the background.

The P-1127 was an experimental aircraft built to develop the concept of VTOL and this was the fifth of the six development aircraft. The development lead to the Harrier which is still operated by many countries, though ironically no longer in the country that developed it !
