A large crowd visible as many hands try to keep this gas balloon on its place. An internet search didn't reveal much more info that this, except for the fact that the volume appears to be 945 m3. Many thanks to Robert for helping to find the info!

Due to fuel shortage, these 3 Arados had to make emergency landings near Heerenveen on February 19, 1938. "6" and "10" were put down just south of the city, "3" was able to fly for another 18km before having to land. They belonged to the Jagdgeschwader 134 "Horst Wessel" (JG134), based out of Dortmund. They were ferried to Eelde after the investigations had been completed and they were finally able to depart to Germany on the 25th of February, having been delayed for 1 day due to fog.

Delivered to Laker on February 25, 1967. Leased to Air Congo between May 1967 and February 1968. It was bought by Nordic Finance in March 1982 and leased to British Caledonian Airways that same month as G-BKAU. In November 1983, it was leased to Okada Airlines as 5N-AOZ and eventually got stored in Benin (BNI) in 1997. Current status is broken up. Otherwise another great blast from the past, with also PH-PLO (C172), PH-KFH (F27) and G-BXBX (PA31) present on the apron.

Unfortunately I'm unable to find a date for this photo, but since we can still see a runway 06/24, it would've been taken before 1983. What I also find interesting is the concrete squares next to the runways. I've been told that observers used to be there to call out if landings gears were down. Whether this is an urban legend or not, I don't know.

What I also find interesting is the concrete squares next to the runways. I've been told that observers used to be there to call out if landings gears were down. Whether this is an urban legend or not, I don't know.

Ex-USAF 44-77083, ex- RAF KN699. After serving for the Dutch Air Force, the aircraft went back to the USAF as 44-77083 before becoming FAC-965 for the Colombian Air Force. In 1981, it became FAP-2030 for the Paraguayan Air Force. Written off on November 24, 1994 near Puerto la Victoria. In 2010 it was reported stored/derelict in Guazu. Judging by the bystanders, some sort of official visit just took place.

A look into the thriving aviation scene at Eelde in the 80's. Various general aviation aircraft, an RLS Citation (the RLS later became the KLM Flight Academy), an Air Holland Boeing 757 rolling onto the apron and the Fokker 50 prototype(?) climbing out from runway 05. Photo taken by Aerophoto Eelde and found while clearing out the basement.

A glimpse of the refuelling possibilities in the 1970's can be seen with this 1969-built 'old-school' Gulfstream. This one was still flying 30 years later, but I am unsure of its whereabouts now.
