Volunteers members of the Toronto Aerospace Museum (TAM) build a full scale medical model of the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow at Downsview Airport between 1998 and October 2006 when the aircraft was rolled out before large crowds. The original supersonic Arrow program was cancelled by the Canadian government on February 20, 1959 and all Arrows scrapped except for a cockpit and one wing set. In Sep. 2011, the Museum was evicted from Downsview Park so the historic DHC hangar could be demolished to build a hockey rink. The Arrow model moved to YYZ on Sep. 21-22, 2013 and later to Edenvale Airport.

Prototype Global 7000 (BD-700-2A12) undergoing checks outside the Bombardier Aerospace factory at Toronto's Downsview Airport (CYZD) a little more than two weeks prior to its first flight on Nov. 4, 2016 under the command of Captain Ed Grabman, assisted by his co-pilot, Jeff Karnes and Flight Test Engineer Jason Nickel under clear conditions at 10:25 a.m. EST. The Global 7000 (now 7500) has a 11 ft longer fuselage (for four "living spaces") than the Global 6500, new GE Passport engines and a brand new wing. The Global 5500/6500/7500 factory will move to CYYZ when Downsview closes in 2023.

View of DHC aircraft factory site at Downsview Airport built in 1929-1945 looking NW in Jan. 2010. The 1929 DHC factory site is in the middle of the photo, to the right and below the road crossing the N-S railway line (see No. 429170). The larger building below (with 3 east-facing doors and 4 south-facing doors) was the wartime Anson II & Mosquito factory and postwar DHC production & MRO plant until a new factory opened in 1954. It then became RCAF Downsview & CFB Toronto until 1996. It is now part of Downsview Park. Runway 15-33 is to the right of the photo. The airport will close in 2023.

This is the prewar hangar of The de Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited at Downsview in 2016 looking NW. The original DHC brick and steel hangar built in 1929 is incorporated into the left (west) hangar bay. When DHC won a contract to build all-Canadian Tiger Moths in 1937, the hangar was extended and a second bay added to the east. If you look closely the DHC name and logo appears over the doors. This is where the 1st DHC-built Tiger Moths, DH 83C Fox Moth, DHC-1 Chipmunk, DHC-2 Beaver and DHC-3 Otter were manufactured. The original heritage building was lost during a $72 M "renovation."

Four Seasons Aviation briefly based this DHC-2 Beaver, C-FETE in the Toronto Aerospace Museum (TAM) hangar at Downsview in 2009. It was originally CF-OMI. It was leased to Rideau Air for sightseeing flights in Ottawa in 2010 before exported. The hangar behind was built DHC in 1940-1941 as a paint shop for new Avro Anson IIs and Mosquitoes. Postwar, this building was the site of DHC's experimental workshops where the prototype DHC-1 Chipmunk and DHC-2 Beaver were built by hand. In Apr 2019, Centennial College opened its $72 M Downsview Campus Centre for Aerospace and Aviation on the site.

The first Dash 8-400 (Q400) for Horizon Air was photographed inside the Bombardier Dash 8 factory at Downsview Airport, Toronto, Ontario in late 2000 or early 2001 prior to delivery. The aircraft was initially "delivered" to Bombardier Capital as N400QX on January 8, 2001 (which allowed Bombardier to recognize the delivery before its fiscal year end on Jan 31, 2001 ). Bombardier probably leased this Q400 to Horizon Air before financing was finalized. It was officially registered to the Seattle-based airline on Sep. 20, 2001. Kodachrome Slide Scan.

In 1998 the Spirit of Wenatchee organization was formed to build a flying replica for 100 Years of Powered Flight celebrations in 2003. Much of the work was done by members of EAA Chapter 424 based in Wenatchee. In 1998 the Spirit of Wenatchee organization was formed to build a flying replica for 100 Years of Powered Flight celebrations in 2003. Much of the work was done by members of EAA Chapter 424 based in Wenatchee. In 2005, a crew flew the Bellanca to Eastern Canada and stopped at the Toronto Aerospace Museum located in a former DHC hangar at Downsview Airport, Toronto, ON. Photographer: Charles Kadin.

This former RCAF DHC-1 attended the 60th anniversary Chipmunk fly-in at Downsview Airport in Toronto staged by the Toronto Aerospace Museum in late May 2006, 60 years after the prototype flew at the same location on May 22, 1946. The aircraft is parked on the ramp outside the wartime DHC factory that built DH 82C Tiger Moths, Anson IIs and Mosquitos and the postwar Chipmunk, Beaver and Otter before a new DHC factory opened in Sep. 1954 to the south. This aircraft has been owned by Terri Garrison and Don Shackketon since July 1980 and is based at Oshawa Airport (YOO) east of Toronto.

The prototype Bombardier Dash 8-400 is seen landing on runway 15 at Downsview Airport, Toronto. The aircraft made its first flight on January 31, 1998 (the end of the Bombardier fiscal year) wearing the registration C-FJJA which is a tribute to de Havilland Canada flight test Jackson "Jock" Aitken who died suddenly a few months earlier. The aircraft first flew in green primer paint and then blue and white Q400 markings until receiving this colour scheme. The aircraft was based at the Bombardier Flight Test Center in Wichita until Bombardier sold DHC in June 2019 and C-FJJA returned to Canada.

On 2nd -3rd July 2005, this Vickers Vimy replica, NX71MY, successfully re-enacted Alcock & Brown's trans-Atlantic flight from St Johns, Newfoundland to Clifden, Ireland, in just under 19 hours. It was built California in 1994 and for the trans-Atlantic flight equipped with a pair of Orenda OE600 V8s. The Toronto Aerospace Museum hosted the Vimy May 25-June 1 while a team from Toronto-based Orenda inspected the engines. Steve Fossett and Mark Rebholz departed Downsview on June 1 escorted by four WW1 replica fighters from the Great War Flying Museum. Fossett died in a crash on Sep. 3, 2007.
