Birgi, on Sicily is essentially an F-16 base with a small civil terminal about as far away from the F-16 area as you could get. Since about 2007 it has become well used by mainly low-cost carriers, in particular Ryanair. Here six F-16s can be seen (one in the blister hangar) the colourful livery making the nearest and third, MM7240 easy to identify. The second carries a special livery that I cannot trace. Taking off in EI-EKY, a flight delayed by an emergency landing of MM7249 (out of shot)

Taken from Auster Autocar G-AMFP on an attempted flight from Southend to the airshow at Chivenor - unfortunately headwinds meant that we never made it that far...Hercules, Argosy, Nimrod, two Hastings and two Comets of the A&AEE sit at rest below. Identities, from furthest, are XW626, XS235, then probably TG502, TG500 and XN817; Nimrod and Hercules could be one of several used

A nice selection of props (or ex-props) in the Western International yard bordering AMARG. The one jet, a T-43A, looks incongruous sitting in the centre of this group of classics which includes eight HU-16s, five C-118s, five C-7s, four P-2s, three P-3s, three and a half C-130s, a C-27 and a C-131.

The first Galaxy to be retired to AMARC arrived in 11.03 and was followed by another dozen over the next couple of years. It was hard work doing justice to such an amazing scene below, using both slide and digital SLRs, but having my son in the back to hold open the Cessna's side window was a help!

Probably the only facility more challenging than an altiport: an altisurface. Above Val Thorens this snow strip lies between the lift stations of Moutiers and Grand Fond. Note the drop at the end, aircraft will be airborne there one way or the other. Jodel D-140 F-BOPT has just made another landing.
