The foremost Spartan was retired to AMARG in Sept. 2013 with only 108.4 h and was subsequently the first to be delivered to the Coast Guard and is now operated as 2714. It is being used to train and qualify CG aircrew and maintenance personnel as well as developing flight and maintenance procedures.

During the Vietnam war this KC-135A was converted to 'Combat Lightning' configuration to perform radio-relay duties over the Gulf of Tonkin. Subsequently converted back to a tanker and then to an E she went on to serve with the 63rd ARS/ 927th ARW at MacDill AFB, FL before being retired to AMARG during May 2007 where it is stored with the PCN/Inventory No. AACA0160. Note the bleached 'Wings of Freedom' nose art.
