The aircraft was built as USAAF C-53D 42-68701, and on D-Day 6th June 1944 it carried US Army paratroopers from RAF Folkingham in Lincolnshire to a drop zone in Normandy. Civilianised in 1946 as NC86588 it served with Penn Central, Capital, and Continental Airlines. It was re-registered as N87SA to Southern Airways in 1954 and to N8701 with Carolina Aircraft in 1967, operating for Florida Air Taxi before sale to Red Carpet as N700RC in 1975 and then to Key West Airlines in July 1980. Finally it was sold to Hill Air at Fort Lauderdale Int. in July 1988 and was last reported there in 1991.

Last reported registration HK-3630X with Lineas Aereas del Mar in Colombia in 1994 but noted as impounded at Madrid AFB in that country in February 1995.

Although stored when photographed it was later restored to flight until finally being withdrawn from use at Sarasota, FL., in 1987.

The last on-line report of this aircraft was of it stored on the Tolair ramp at San Juan, PR., in June 2000, and the registration was cancelled from the US register on 19 July 2012.

In July 1984 the aircraft was sold to the Fuerza Aerea Venezolana, (Venezuela Air Force), as FAV-0442 and was last noted in July 2019 stored at Maracay El Libertador air base.

Still current on the US register with a certificate that expires in March 2028.

The aircraft was the personal aircraft of the late champion golfer Arnold Palmer, note his trademark golfing umbrella symbol just aft of the cockpit window, and was one of his seven Citations to carry that registration. In April 1988 it came on to the British register as G-HOTL, but in May 1989 it returned to the USA as N999WA and in 1996 it was converted to Citation II/SP standard with the new c/n 551-0095; it's 10th and last registration was N48DK which was cancelled as expired in September 2022.

Re-registered N9070Q in March 1985 but cancelled from the US Register as destroyed on 6th October 1994.

Originally N6260C "Clipper Westwind" with Pan American, it was once familiar as YA-DAO with Ariana Afghan Airlines on its weekly trips to Gatwick, and later as HR-TNQ at Miami with TAN Airlines. Sadly, its career ended in 1983 when it was impounded for smuggling at Great Inagua in the Bahamas.

Early production (Line #37) Boeing 707 originally delivered to Continental Airlines as N70774 in May 1959. It later served with the Israeli DFAF as 4X-JYA and 4X-JYB. At the time of the photograph it was owned by Charlotte Aircraft, (hence the CA registration suffix), having been leased to Sky Safari Travel Club. In August 1981 it was sold to Hispaniola Airlines as HI-384, later HI-384HA, and was damaged beyond repair in an undercarriage collapse landing at Miami on 16th December1981 and lingered on there as derelict until it was broken up in 1987.

Just retired by the Gabon Government; arrived in Malta for maintenance by MIACO.

VH-SFM was removed from the register in 2006 as destroyed, probably as a consequence of being scrapped.

VH-FDN was withdrawn from use in 2014.

VH-PMK was registered in October 1962 after previous Australian registrations of VH-MEA and VH-PAM.

Some Hawkins & Powers' aircraft were still wearing their titles in these days.
