This was the prototype Bristol 171 which made its first flight at Filton on 27 July 1947. It is seen around that time wearing military serial but no military roundel. From Bristols 60 years ago.

Ex USAAF 42-23728 and RAAF A65-10. Served with 34 Squadron using call sign VHCTK. Sold to Guinea Airways on 30 December 1946 as VH-AVM and on to ANA in May 1947. Returned to the USA in June 1953 as N1433V and scrapped circa 1984. From ANA 60 years ago.

The Baumann Brigadier first flew on 20 June 1947. It carried five persons and was powered by two 125 h.p. Continental engines in pusher mode. Only two examples of the type were built. From Baumann 60 years ago.

Ex USAAF C-47-DL 41-18679. Served CPAL from December 1945 until June 1969. Still operational as N8061A with Jim Hankins Air Service, Mississippi, in 2012.

Lancaster G-AHJW (top - ex ED866) acts as the tanker as G-AHJU (ex LM681) acts as receiver. Note the fuel pipe being drawn towards the orifice under the tailplane using a steel cable. G-AHJW was lost in a crash near Andover Hants on 22 November 1948. Obtained from Flight Refuelling Ltd over 50 years ago.

Having been air-dropped from the mother Boeing B-29, the rocket motor has been fired to take the XS-1 supersonic. In June 1948 it was renamed X-1. From Bell Aircraft 60 years ago.

Armstrong Whitworth-built Lancaster modified to B.VI and used by Rolls Royce for flight testing the Dart turboprop in a nose installation. Retired in 1952. Obtained from Rolls-Royce 50 years ago.

Built by Victory Aircraft at Malton (Ontario) as Lancaster B.X KB730. Converted to Lancaster XPP freighter for Transatlantic operation by TCA. It wears the wartime-style red/white/blue underlining of its registration. To AP-ACM and crashed at in Pakistan on 1 August 1948. From TCA 60 years ago.
