The Spanish Army deployed several Cougars to Afghanistan in support of ISAF. The helicopters arrived at Kabul, were assembled there and continued their deployment in Herat.

A component of the German Transalls was dedicated to special operations support, these machines being fitted with modernized flight system / navigation avionics, and cockpits compatible with night vision goggles (NVGs). These aircraft - reportedly some 24 - received an external modification on the side of the fuselage just in front of the wings. The EloKa self-defense system was developed to enhance the Transall's self-protection capabilities during missions flown in support of the German ISAF Troops operating in Afghanistan.

This deployment was shared with initially the Belgiums, and later with the Norwegian. The Dutch and the Norwegians formed the "first Netherlands / Norwegian Expedition Air Wing (EEAW) F-16 International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Detachment 4", or in short 1 NLD/NOR EEAW F-16 Det ISAF-4. The Norwegians relieved the Belgiums with 1 NLD/BEL EEAW F-16 Det ISAF-3.

At the time this picture was made, this CASA was registered with Devon Holding & Leasing, a shadow company that is related to CIA operations. The aircraft was registered to N464HA (still with Devon Holding & Leasing Inc.) in June 2012 and Quality Aviation LLC (still as N464HA) in February 2020. With the latter company it was reregistered to N883VA (March 2020) and N883QA (August 2020). Possibly to tangle up us all...

This 1982 Aviocar was linked to Blackwater, the US private military contractor, also operating in Afghanistan. The aircraft often visited Kabul. At the time of this picture, 961 was registered with Ep Aviation Llc in Wood Dale (IL). The Aviocar is reported as stored from 2010.

This former Societ Air Force CANDID (as CCCP-76734) was delivered in May 1987. It was transferred to Belarus and served Ilavia (as EW-76734) from August 1999, Eastline from March 2000, Krylo from March 2001, for a few months Atlant-Soyuz from April 2002, Trans Avia Export from June 2002, Volga-Dnepr from May 2008 and again Trans Avia Export from April 2011. The Il-76 kept all the time its same registration. From May 2013 onwards, the TD was stored at Minsk. Trans Avia Export reported in 2015 that 76734 could be made airworthy again in the future, if required.

This 727 was already over 25 years old when it landed at Kabul. The aircraft was first delivered to Air France as F-GCDA in March 1980. The 727 was transferred to Air Charter in January 1991 and in November 1992 to Euralair International, still keeping its same registration. It was withdrawn for service in June 1994, but Iran purchased it as LX-IRA in October 1994. Iran Aseman started to operated the aircraft and registered it to EP-ASA in November 1998. Eventally the old-stager was again withdrawn from use on 1 March 2018. It was last seen stored/scrapped at at Tehran-Mehrabad Int'l.

One could think "why Sidewinders, as there was no air-to-air threat over Afghanistan"... the clarification is that the wing stress is decreased with the attachment of Sidewinders.
