Registration not yet carried. This aircraft was built by Aviation Industries of Iran (AII), to avoid dependence on imports. AII is closely affiliated with the Industrial Development Renovation Organization (IDRO), which was established in Iran in 1967 and now belongs to the largest companies of the country. The AVA-202 is a two-seat, light aircraft designed as a trainer and sporting aircraft. As far as we know, only four were built.

An Iranian indigenous built Shahed 278, a lightweight helicopter that resembles the Bell models. Iran's Aviation Industries Research Center (AIRC) describes the Shahed-278 as a purely civilian design, but later it said that the platform will be used as a light reconnaissance helicopter, armed with weapons and sensors. Test flights of the Shahed-278, in military service designated Oh-78, began in late 2004. The Shahed 278 makes use of airframe and dynamic components of the Bell 206 Jet Ranger. When produced, this helicopter will be built by Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company (HESA).

Aircraft does not carry any serial. It is fitted with the instrument panel from 6-9701, and is often incorrectly quoted as such. But it also has a dataplate in the cockpit that shows serial 53-7784. This proves that this aircraft is in fact c/n 566, which was delivered to Iran in 1953 as 6-9706.

In the late 80s this was Iraqi Airways YI-ALX, it was evacuated to Iran during the US invation in 1991. Here it was later impounded, and transferred to the Iran Airfoce. Many parts were removed from 5-8201 to serve in the overhaul for 5-8202.
