This Lincoln (RAF RF342) served as a research and test aircraft, first for Napier in icing research and then for Cranfield University. It was unique for being fitted with the nose section from Lancaster TW911 and featured nose graphics representing various wing and tail sections of aircraft fitted atop in icing tests. Seen here in 'B' Class markings, it was also flown under registration G-APRJ. When the Southend museum closed it was dismantled, the nose going to the US but large sections ending up with the Moorabbin Air Museum in Australia where a slow restoration process has recently begun

Had several great flights with the Rochford Hundred Flying Group in this 1950 Autocar. Five days after my last trip, on 10 August 1972 was lost in a non-fatal crash in the Jura Mountains while flying between Geneva and Macon. Prior to joining the RHFG to replace the aircraft in which I experienced my first ever flight, Auster G-ANHX, it had spent the best part of 20 years based at Southend, first with ATEL, then with Southend Corporation
