The Rumpler C.I was a competent armed reconaissance aircraft, entering German service in 1915 and remaining in frontline service until early 1918 in some places. With its friendly flying qualities, it was latterly used as a trainer. The C.Ia had an Opel engine. This one was C.968/17 and was used by a training unit in Paderborn when it landed at Elburg in the neutral Netherlands on 23 August 1917.
