Syrian Arab Air Force MiG-23ML 2786 defected to Megiddo, Israel in October 1989. It was tested by the IDF, received an Israeli roundel and found its way to the museum in Hatzerim.

The story of these two Vampire trainers in Syrian markings, 493 (c/n 15768) and 494, is unclear to us. Apparently the real customer was Egypt but the Suez Crisis prevented delivery and a DH.115 production list says 'scrapped'. Two Syrian MiG-17s, 1033 and 1041, landed at Betzet in northern Israel after the pilots lost their way. After test flights by the Israelis, both jets were given to the United States. 1033 is visible on the right here. A Polish Lim painted as 1033 is in the Hatzerim museum. This Syrian Gazelle was captured in Lebanon in June 1982. It flew three years with the Israeli Air Force as 907 before it went to the museum.
