Last of the development batch of F.1s on at RAF Museum Cosford. The F.1 was powered by two vertically mounted Avon Mk 201s, with No.2 engine being on top and further aft in the staggered arrangement. This aircraft was used to test various aspects of the aircraft's design, powerplant and trial the Red Top missile. It received a square fin with 15% greater area for F.3 trials. The top view shows Firestreaks, the 60⁰ swept wings and ailerons with honeycomb tips, and the small pivoting tailplane. Renowned for its phenomenal rate of climb, the Lightning could go vertically at 20,000 ft/min.

Delivered to the RAF as XG337 in 1959. To Cosford for use as ground trainer 8056M in 1970. Transferred to the RAF Museum in 1983.

Started life as one of the 20 development batch English Electric P1B. Received numerous mods over its life as a trials aircraft at Warton and Boscombe Down, probably the most noticeable was an F3 fin.
