Slide taken aboard Lex during A-7 carrier qualifications (CQ) by VA-122. VA-122 at the time was an A-7 training squadron. Initial CQ in an A-7 normally consisted of 10 day arrested landings and 8-10 night arrested landings over a two to three day period. This A-7E was accepted by the Navy on 20 April 1979, just six weeks before I took this slide.

This slide was taken on the Carrier Air Wing ramp at NAS Cubi Point. This area was used by carrier air wings when deployed to the Far East. Squadrons would fly off some aircraft there so as to be able to conduct flight operations when the carrier was in port. In 1977 this A-7B was transferred to VA-303, a reserve squadron based at NAS Alameda, CA. In 1983 it was sent to NAS Memphis, TN. where it was used as a ground instructional trainer. It is currently on display at the USS Lexington Museum in Corpus Christi, TX.
