This Kiowa is actually a Bell-built example and was delivered to the Australian Army on 25 January 1972. It's currently with 162 Reconnaissance Squadron and was one of four flown in from Townsville in an RAAF C-17 for the Australian International Airshow. This one was on static display, but it's seen here departing for an air-test after re-assembly.

This Archer was originally built as a J.2 Arrow and registered G-AIGW on 22 October 1946. Shipped to Australia in May 1947, it became VH-BDE. The Australian Auster agents Kingsford Smith Aviation Service converted this aircraft to J.4 Archer standard in April 1957 and re-registered it VH-KFB the following year. It was substantially damaged at Canberra in October 1958 and was laid up for some time. Following rebuild it became VH-CRR in September 1961.

Following his record-breaking flight to Australia in 1928, Bert Hinkler designed and built his ideal light aircraft. The Ibis was designed with the possibility of becoming an amphibian in mind, although the only prototype was strictly a land-plane. It had an enclosed cabin for two and was powered by two Salmson AD9s in a push/pull arrangement. Original flew in May 1930, but Hinkler abandoned development due to the Depression. Full-size replica constructed 1987-88 & displayed Hinkler Hall of Aviation.

The Register records this aircraft has having been first registered on 3 September 1959, however Eddie Coates has a photo (and memories) of it when it was based in Launceston, Tas, in the early 50s. This gyro belongs to Paul Bruty, a legend in Aussie gyro circles. Its modifications include 'CLT' (Centre-Line Thrust), a lowered keel and a horizontal stabiliser. It's powered by a Subaru flat-four. You can also see the style of Aussie gyro registrations, with the leading zero of the aircraft's individual number omitted.

Old 'Twelve' is looking a bit grotty at the moment, having obviously seen some heavy service in recent times. Delivered in October 1978, it served with 36 Squadron until November 2006 and is currently with 37 Squadron, RAAF.
