Bangladesh's national carrier normally used B707s on their flights into Amsterdam, but after a 707 belly-landed at Singapore in April 1980, they were one aircraft short. An Aer Lingus 707 was leased for 6 months, followed by this very nice DC-8, leased from Cargolux in November 1980. It flew into AMS regularly until the summer of 1981.

Sold to an American leasing company in 1977, I-DIWI eventually ended up in Peru.

First scanned by request from the son of an Aerocondor and ARCA pilot that used to fly this DC-8. Taken under an angry sky on my way down to Colombia for the first time, this DC-8 is painted in quasi-Alitalia colours to match others in the fleet, but was actually ex-Braniff and in their red livery on acquisition in 2.80. First del to National as N875C in 4.62, becoming N812BN in 9.73. Wfu at MIA in 9.88. Had reg PR-SKY reserved but b/u by 2001

The DC-8 has character. Formerly F-BIUZ, this machine joined the French air force in 1977 as an electronic intelligence aircraft.

TEAL (Tasman Empire Air Lines) became Air New Zealand concurrently with the arrival of the DC-8s. Initially, the aircraft carried both names.

5Y-BAS pictured during its take-off from runway 01L. Only two ASA aircraft ever carried the striking zebra stripes on the upper fuselage, and this is one of them. ASA purchased this beauty from KLM in 1976 (ex PH-DCN), and later sold it to Seychelles International as S7-SIA. It was broken up at Brussels during 1987.

Although I took this photograph over 40 years ago (as at 2020) I have only recently realised that this was actually the prototype DC8. Sadly this historically important aircraft was broken up at Marana in 1993
