Though far from old, this Sportstar was attending the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's Auster Rally. This is a 2005-production aircraft, first registered in Australia as VH-VPH(2) on 16 March 2006 - see my earlier shot of it at the 2007 Avalon airshow. It was transferred to the RAAus Register on 15 May 2007. The eagle-eyed will also note the Whale in the background!

Although painted in this superb USN scheme, this aircraft was actually built as AT-6C Harvard Mk II, USAAF 41-33767, to an RAF order (EX794). It was, however, shipped straight to New Zealand in August 1943 and became NZ1051. It served with the RNZAF until 1978 when it was sold and entered the hands of the warbird community.

This Aiglet was originally registered as VH-KAW to the Australian Auster agents, Kingsford Smith Aviation Service, at Bankstown on 18 May 51. A month later it was sold to a private owner, and changed hands again a month after that. It was struck off the Register on 8 March 57 but re-registered as VH-WFA on 9 Aug that year to Wagga Air Taxi & Flying School. From 15 June 63 it was re-registered again as VH-WWG and passed through a succession of private owners.

The Aiglet Trainer is an aerobatic version of the Auster with shorter wings. This one came to Australia in June 1954, being the former G-AMOV. After spending 15 years mainly in outback Queensland, it was withdrawn from service in 1969. Following restoration it was re-registered on 14 March 1988. Based in Ballarat, it's seen here arriving at the Antique Aeroplane Association's Auster Rally.

Coasting to a stop at the Sydney Seaplanes terminal, Rose Bay. This Beaver was built in 1961 and delivered to the Ghana Air Force, registered G-213. It seems to have made its way to the USA around 1974, being civil registered as N37772. In 1976 it came to Australia, being re-registered as VH-IMR on 17 September that year. It was later re-registered again as VH-AAM(3) on 13 April 1992 and named 'Caledonia' after one of the old Empire flying boats that used to operate out of Rose Bay.
