This 1942 Piper J3C 65 Cub was the smallest aircraft to participate in the Expo 86 Bushplane Flypast on ay 5, 1986. It was owned by The Hon. Stephen Rogers, a cabinet minister in the BC provincial government, and the member of a wealthy family that owned a sugar refinery. It is seen here about to takeoff from the Fraser River next to Pitt Meadows Airport (YPK) for a flight over the Expo 86 site in downtown Vancouver. The aircraft was imported to Canada in 1974 and in 2021 was still owned by a pilot in the Vancouver area.

The GA airfield at Mosfellsbær outside Reykjavík holds some interesting aircraft and workshops. TF-CUP is the aircraft on the right. The wing belongs to an R/C model of the Cub.

W Leo Schuth, in suit, started Valley Flying Service in 1939. After Pearl Harbor he became the commander of the local CAP unit. Schuth and a trainee pilot, the son of one of his mechanics, lost their lives in a Luscombe crash on 7 April 1944. The airfield became Pine Valley Airpark in 1948 and later the USAF Academy Airfield. The first of the 'Flitfire' Cubs built to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund, NC1776 was donated by the Piper factory. This unnamed aircraft had a special N number and was fitted with spats. In 1941 Piper donated one Cub, NC1776, to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund. Piper dealers ordered another 50 J-3s, each named after a US state in small print on the nose. The so-called 'Flitfires' are seen here in New York for a fund-raising event following a formation flight from Lock Haven. The aircraft subsequently went to the respective dealers and never trained RAF pilots in a coherent manner.
