A closeup of the crushed cockpit of C-46 'Salmon Ella', which had undergone a nose transplant at the Everts North Hangar. The aircraft was involved in a runway overrun incident with it tipping over and crushing the nose section. Amazingly, neither pilot was seriously injured.

This DC-3 is longtime airport resident and was moved to an isolated ramp at the south end of the airport a few years ago. Acquired by Reeve Aleutian in 1946, it was the airline's first DC-3 and it still wear's faded Reeve colors and Salair titles. It is currently owned by the Alaska Aviation Museum. A quick look inside showed a cargo interior and a cockpit totally devoid of instruments and other equipment. This DC-3 is an historical Alaskan icon and deserves to be preserved.
