Seen at one of the North Weald Air Displays in the late 90's. Sadly this aircraft was very badly damaged in an accident at Goodwood on 8th April 2000 which claimed the lives of both occupants. After an extensive restoration it is flying again as G-CCCA

When SOC from the RAF, this Spitfire was returned to Vickers Supermarine, converted to a two seat type 509 and delivered to the Irish Air Corps. Sold in 1968 to be used in the film "Battle of Britain" before coming to Canada in 1970. The owner later converted it to a single seater by fairing over the rear cockpit. Sold to the USA in 1975 and later re-converted back to a two seater.

The aircraft took part in the flying display at the 'Wings over Houston' airshow.

A very brief turn-around of the wind caused the aircraft to take off the opposite was to the general events at the D-Day Airshow and the aircraft shows the newly applied D-Day stripes
