Before acquiring any helicopters of their own, the Swedish armed forces held extensive trials with Ostermans Aero's Bell 47s and S-55s - fortunately for the company which had lost a lot of money using the two S-55s on a Malmö - Copenhagen passenger shuttle service in June and July 1955. Experimental air mail delivery in Brooklyn. We found the location doing a reverse image search for the church. HAT was the first commercial helicopter operator. The S-51 appears to be NC92803, delivered to the company from Camden, New Jersey in September 1946. HAT filed for bankruptcy in October 1947. NC92803 went to the US Coast Guard as an HO3S, 233. Now preserved in the Evergreen museum, Oregon. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

The Refuge des Grand Mulets sits at 3051 m (10,010 ft) on the Mont Blanc. The mountain hut was rebuilt in 1960. Here the famous French mountaineer and High Commissioner for Youth and Sport Maurice Herzog arrives for the inauguration. F-BIFL crashed three days later. The pilot and a mechanic were killed. Helicopter company Los Angeles Airways started flying the mail from the roof of the large white Terminal Annex post office, to the left of Union Station and partly obscured by the high-rise City Hall - see photo 362455. The company started scheduled passenger services using S-55s in November 1954. The S-61L was introduced on 1 March 1962, this being the S-61L prototype. The cheatline is orange and black. N300Y crashed on a flight from LAX to Disneyland in Anaheim in 1968 and all 21 people on board were killed. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

Pilots of F22, the Swedish UN squadron in Congo, posing in front of one of their jets. At the end of the mission in 1963, seven of the nine J29B fighters, including 29365 / I, were blown up by the Swedes as the non-afterburning J29B was being phased out and the costs of bringing the aircraft home could not be justified. MATS Globemaster II at the modern Kamina airbase during the Congo Crisis. Known as BaKa to the Belgians, this had been a Belgian flying training centre.
